each year people in the united states create about  268 million tons of waste. When  we toss stuff in the  trash can it might be sent to a landfill or could be burned. In  the landfill  some materials like paper and year trimming might decompose  (which means bread down into parts  that can be reused by nature ) in just a few weeks. but other items like glass and plastic could take a million years  or look at this  breakdown of the most common types of waste in the united states and think about think about  recycling   or compost these items instead.  paper 25/0  food waster 15.20/0  plastic 13.2/0 year trimmings 13.1/0 metal9.4/0 wood 6.7/0 textiles  6.3/0 glass 4.2/0 from called national geographic kids  https://pw.lacounty.gov/general/enotifyCalendar/Calendar.aspx
