strange statues

Easter island is part of polynesia a seris  of islands in the southeastern pacific ocean.When europeabs fisrst landed on the island in the 1700s, they found a few thousand natives and 887 large stone statues The figures ware as tall as 14 feet and weighed many tons  no  one knows for  sure how or why they were they built . There are many wild theories about the creators of  the  statues including one that clims space aliens carved the stone figures.Expert say the statues were made by islands original inhabitants.  Easter islands native population was once about 12,000. By the time  the Europeans arrived their numbers had been reduced by natural disasters and also  because building and moving the statues used up the islands resources.
