A chapel in the czech republic contains beautiful decorations and furnishing and they're all made from hum skeletons centuries ago the abbey at sidlec was major burial site. Around 1400, a church was built in the middle of the cemetery and a small chapel was used as and ossuary for the mass graces unearthed during construction. above is a detail from a pinnacle decorative pyramid of bones each pinnacle in the chapel is crowned with a cherub. The task of exhuming. skeleton and stacking their bones was given to a half blind monk. In 1870 wood carve frantisek Rint was employed by the schwarzenberg family who owned the church to put the bone heaps in order. He turned 40,00 skeleton into amazing artistic creations producing crosses columns and chalices of bones. From the center of the nave hangs an enormous chandelier featuring every bones in the human body severe time over. garland of skulls drape the vaults for bell shaped bone mounds occupy corners of the chapel monstrances of bones flank the altar and there is even a bones replica of the schwarzenberg coat of arms. below is one the chapel's bone chalices.The use of bones crate this and all the other decoration was intended to give the visitor and impression of the shortness of life and the inevitability of death.The bones come mainly from victims of the black death plague that swept across Europe in the 14th century when 30,000 people were buried in sedlec century. some however are also casualties from the Hussite wars of the 15th century on some of the skulls the make of wounds are clearly visible.
