orangutans are the most endangered members of great ape family. They live in rain forests in sumatra and borneo. These are islands north of austraialia .The male orangutan stands 3 to 5 feet tall. he can weigh up to 200 pounds. Orangutans can live to be over 25 years old. Orangutans get along well with each other. However they usually live and travel alone. The full grown male almost always is alone. The female will travel here young. They travel alone so they can find more food. orangutan spend most of their time in the trees with their long strong arms they swing from branch to branch.They eat tree bark buds leaves flower seeds plant shoots and lots of fruit They sleep in nests in the the trees the big heavy males travel on the ground when they they walk they walk on all fours zoo life is not good for orangutans the do not like cages . many have been able to open the bars with their strong arms and escape some zoo have built special places without bars for them. Orangutans can catch the same diseases as humans.Special care must be taken to keep them in good health. Orangutans are very smart they make tool out of things around them some have been taught sing language others have been trained to play prats in movies.
