tibetan sky burial


sky burials are a vajrayana  buddhist funeral rite practiced in tibet qinghai mongolia and lnner  mongolia after death the copse it left untouched for three days while  tibetan monks chant  around it On the fourth day the copse is cleaned wrapped in white cloth and placed  in a fetal position on a pallet . lamas or priests lead a funeral  a funeral procession before dawn to  the charnel ground where the body is ritualstcally  broken into pieces and offered to the vultures who circle overhead it is believed  the the vulures are dakinis  the tibetan  equivalent  of angels who will take  the soul to heaven to be  reincarnated. Tibetans are encouraged to witness this ritual so they can conferont  death openly and  understand the impedance  of life.
