in January1992,a stupendous storm waged three  containers off  a ship that was  bound from Hong  Kong to tacoma washingtigng. one  container  spilled its contents  into the  sea - on less than 29,000 bathtub toy. In 2007, retired teacher  penny harris found the  first plastic duck from the cargo to arrive in England   when  it washed  up on a beach in Devon  at the end a 15, year round the world trip. Two - thirds of them bobbed off south through the tropics landing  month later on  the shores of Indonesia Australia  and south  America. The remaining 10,000 plastic duck turtles frogs and beavers headed north and were soon off the coast of Alaska whereupon they turned back westward.Some of the duck make their way south and werer seen floating past Japan in 1995. Many however  became trapped it the North pacific  Gyer . This  giant clockwise spiral of water  collects and gradually grinds the  oceans  plastic debris.  However  even this couldn't  halt the plucky ducks which eventually broke free and pressed on.
