pumpkin art

For its  month -long 2013 halloween fest  ocean park  theme park in Hong Kong exhibited  the  world largest  collection of  pickled pumpkin sculptures- more than 400 spooky designs created by master carvers ray viallfane and andy bergholtz. The  centerpiece was grotesque  gremlins a giant  pumpkin (right) weighing   more gab 1,000 lb. (45kg). which had beenspecially handpicked  by ray in the U.A..S.  using just spoons and scalpels, ray and his  team spent hours on each sculptures before the finished pumpkin were immersed  vinegar  to preserve them for visitors to enjoy.when  looking for a good  pumpkin to carve ray selects the meatiest l also  like  a pumpkin  with character- one  with knobby  rider is good so that can utilize  that  carving process like sculptures noses. However  because the process  is unpredictable  he can never  wither the texture or flesh color will be ideal for sculptures until  he actually start carving. His previous lifelike  pumping sculptures  have included gorillas clowns birds and actor johnny deep. He began carving  one  day entertain his art student at  school lived  in bellair  Michigan  sculptures  has always been my passion. he says  but most importantly the kids at school absolutely  love them  for days after that there would be a dozen pumpkins sitting on my desk waiting  fro me to carve them. The finished  designs are dipped in vinegar to preserve them. Andy cut away the skin of the  pumpkin before setting to work using just a  scalpel and a spoon. Ray use the natural  textures in the pumpkin  flesh to work on his design's features.
