for its month long 2013 halloween fest. ocean park  theme park in  hong kong exhibited  the  world largest collection  of pickled pumpkin  sculptures  more than 400 spooky designs  created by carvers  ray vilafane  and  Andy  bergholtz. The  centerpiece was  a  grotesque gremlin carved from  a giant pumpkin (right) weighing more then 1,000bl (45kg) which  hand  been specially  handpicks  by ray in usa using just spoons and  scalpels ray and his spent  hours on  each sculptures before the finished pumpkins ware immersed  in vinegar to preserve them for visitors to enjoy. when looking  for  a good pumpkin  to carve ray select the  meatiest I also like  a pumpkin  with character one  with knobby ridges in good so that  i can utilize  that it the carving process like sculptures noses  however  because the  process is unpredictable he can never be sure  whether the texture of  flesh color will be  ideal for sculpting  until he  actually starts carving  His previous lifelike pumpkin  sculptures have  included gorillas clowns birds and  actor johnny deep. he began   carving pumpkins one  day entertain  his art  students at school  when he lived in Bellaire  Michigan sculpting  has always been my passion he says  but most importantly the kids school  absolutely loved them from days after that there would be a dozen pumpkins sitting on my desk waiting  for me to carve them. The finished design are dipped  in vinegar to preserve then. Andy cuts away the skin of the pumping  before  setting to work using just a scalpel and a spoon. ray uses the natural texture in pumpkins flesh to work on his design  features form ripley believe it or not
