when it's finished it will be the worlds largest mountain carving. The subjects  crazy horse  a fearless Native American warrior  in the 19th century. The sculpture will be bigger than mount rushmore   the famous  American landmark that is located nearby. In the black Hils of south Dakota sculptors and engineers have been working on the giant statue of crazy horse since 1948 using carefully - controlled expoosives  the them blasts the rock to carve out the stone. The memorial was designed by Korczak ziolkowski  (core -chock jewel -cuff- ski ) a polish- American artist who had worked briefly on  the stone ptoraits of U.S. presidents at  mount Rushmore.  This is how  the monument  will look when it is finished . The head of crazy  horse was completed in 1998. It is 87 feet (27m) tall-27 feet (8m) higher than the hand of a U.S. president on mount Rushmore.The finished statue will be 563 feet (172m)m high and 641 feet (195m) wide. when will the memorial be completed no one knows for sure. 1890 United stated trips and groups of indian tribes fought a  series of wars for control of the west.Crazy Horse was a leader in many battles during the 1860s and 1870s. He was wanted to take the Native Americans land as well as from enemy tribes. In May of 1877 tired of fighting Crazy house surrendered  to U.S. Cavalry  several months later while trying to escape from prison he was killed by an army guard. seventeen miles from the crazy memorial the faces of great U.S.president are carved into the side of mount Rushmore can identify them.
